Spring Lake refers to both the body of water and the Village of Spring Lake which surrounds it. Spring Lake, Alberta was formerly the Village of Edmonton Beach and was renamed the Village of Spring Lake when it changed its status as the Summer Village of Edmonton Beach...prior to that it was known as Cottage Lake.In the early 1900's it was the place to go for a weekend at the lake and had a hotel, held dances and picnics reached usually by train from Edmonton.
